Our pompous treadmill warriors today are going to be the Nordictrack Commercial 1750 and the Smooth 7.35.

Both of these treadmills are priced at $1,499, putting them right in the middle of the $1000-$2000 range. The treadmills are both popular and have long histories. The treadmills are both manufactured by Icon, so we’re not really comparing the quality of two companies, but seeing which treadmill Icon did a better job with. Nordictrack and Smooth tend to focus on slightly different things, which you will see as the story unfolds.

To start, the Nordictrack Commercial 1750 is built with a 3.5 CHP motor. That is always a good place to start. The motor is strong, solid, and balanced. The noise level is low, and the treadmill as a whole feels as solid as any high-end unit. If you get a possible chance to walk on a treadmill before you buy it, make sure to do it. Feel the way it feels as you run and stomp on it, make sure it feels solid. If you feel any slip in the belt, or any ricketing in the frame, or a lot of noise coming from the motor, be cautious about buying it. It will only get older and more grumpy. Fortunately both of these treadmills are built very solid. The Smooth is actually the more solid of the two because of its heavy-duty welded frame, but both are strong enough for my satisfaction when it comes to the deck, frame, and motor. They both have a 350 lb weight capacity which makes them strong enough for pretty much anyone.

A great aspect of both treadmills are their full size running areas. The Nordictrack has a 20″ x 60″ treadbelt, which is the standard full size. This is a pretty comfortable amount of room, but the Smooth actually goes the extra mile on this machine and offers 20″ x 62″. It’s not a big difference, but it’s great that they go above and beyond the norm. Smooth is an example of going the extra mile in a lot of different aspects in their treadmills.

The Nordictrack offers more for features. For example, a 7″ full color touch screen that can navigate Ifit Live, and connect to google maps, etc. These extra features are more important to different people. If you like the Ifit Live capabilities, you’ll miss them on a treadmill that doesn’t have them. I’m not sure why Smooth hasn’t started putting them in their treadmills, but they haven’t yet. Their focus tends to be more on the inner quality and sturdiness of the machines, which they excel at, rather than the features. The smooth does have 20 built in workouts, but no web-based tracking system. Check out these more detailed specs for a good side by side comparison.

About My Treadmill Reviews

TreadmillMy treadmill reviews are both subjective and objective. They are objective in the sense that I will provide you with information about each machine, such as motor, weight capacity and other features. But they are subjective in the sense that I am really giving my opinion of each treadmill. You may agree or disagree with my opinion, but my hope is that my elliptical and treadmill reviews can be helpful to you in making a decision on what to buy. Remember that each review is just what I think. You can always check out Treadmill Doctor, Treadmill Review Guru or these other treadmill reviews if you want another opinion.
