Horizon T101 vs. Proform Performance 400

Our first two competitors for the 3rd round are the Horizon T101 and the Proform Performance 400.

These best buy competitions are getting harder and harder as the rounds go on. These two treadmills are both great, and they’re almost the same in specs and features. As far as customer reviews and invisible quality goes, it’s also a toss-up. They differ a lot in their build and design because they’re built by different manufacturing companies, but they must have been copying each other in a lot of things. Both are priced at $599 which is extremely low priced for a treadmill of any quality at all. These two are the best that I’ve found in the market at this price.

The motors are both 2.25 CHP, which is on the low-side, but you really can’t ask for anything more for this price. The motors, while small, are still strong enough to handle most medium to light-weight casual runners. Both have a maximum weight capacity of 300 lbs. Although 300 lbs sounds like a lot, if you really do weigh 300 lbs, you would be wise to get a heavier duty treadmill. These ones tend to have problems when they’re put under that much weight. The deck can crack or break, or the motor will get bogged down, or other things.

Both treadmills are able to reach up to 10MPH and have a maximum incline of 10%. The decks are both 20″ x 55″ wide and long which is actually a decent size compared to most 18″ x 50″ running areas at this price. The console of the proform offers a bit more than the Horizon because it is Ifit Live compatible. Ifit allows you to track your stats, and train to Jillian Michaels or google maps trails. The horizon doesn’t have any sort of stats tracking or anything, which is a bit of a downer.

The warranties are the same. Lifetime coverage on the frame and motor, 1 year on parts and labor. The cushioning systems aren’t much different. The Horizon is actually a bit quieter when you run on it. The specs below will explain the rest.

The two treadmills are really close, and both have their strengths and weaknesses. I suppose it comes down to whichever company you’d rather deal with more than which treadmill you’d rather have. Horizon has better customer service from my experience. The Proform has a few extra features that the Horizon doesn’t have, so it’s a total tossup and I’m just going to have to call it a tie.
